Karwar: Local MLA Roopali Naik has sought police protection citing threat to her life. In a letter to the Uttara Kannada SP, the BJP legislator has demanded that she be provided with police security as some unidentified persons are monitoring her movement and following her. In the letter, Roopali has claimed that she had already written to the Uttara Kannada SP about the threat to her and her family, “but have not received any reply from the police department”. Quoting instances of suspicious people following her, the MLA said that on September 30, 2018, two vehicles — an SUV and a car — followed her from Harwada. The incident happened on NH-66 when she was returning to Karwar from Ankola after attending Ankola Festival. After seeing the vehicles trailing her car, Roppali stopped her vehicle near the naval base gate and informed the police about it. “Thereafter, police took me home,” Roopali said in the letter. In the other incident she mentioned, a motorbike-borne man had followed her, which had also been brought to the notice of police then. Power supply to her area also gets disrupted often, especially when she returns home during the night hours, she said, adding that some people keep moving around her residence in a suspicious manner. Roopali has requested the SP to provide security to her and her family and has asked for an armed guard to keep vigil. Source: Times of India
