Karwar: Depressed prisoner commits suicide in prison by hanging himself

Karwar 22 June 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) A depressed prisoner at Karwar Jail, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a towel in his prison cell around 4:30 pm on 21st June Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Umesh Gowda(38), a resident of Kodagu.
Umesh was convicted for involvement in a murder case at JMFC of Karkala in the year 2017 and was kept at Udupi Jail. Due to the renovation of the Jail at Udupi, some of the prisoner including Umesh, were taken to Karwar Jail on 20th of June 2018.
However on Thursday evening, due to depression Umesh allegedly hanged himself with a towel.
Soon he was rushed to District Hospital of Karwar. But he was declared dead later.
A case has been registered at Karwar Town Police Station.
