Karwar: Dr Harish Kumar ordered HESCOM officials and Karwar, Ankola municipalities to stop the farmers from using pump sets on the Gangavathi river as the water level in the basin is depleting, consequently causing drinking water issues. “Karwar and Ankola areas depend on Gangavali river for drinking water supply. The water level in the river has come down leading to irregular supply of drinking water. In May, it usually rains in the Malnad areas and the river flow increases. But this year it has not rained so far. Therefore it was necessary to stop using the pump sets for the time being to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to Karwar and Ankola areas” said the DC. Source: News Karnataka
