Karwar: Boat catches fire mid-sea as battery explodes; three crew members critical

Karwar 5 September 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) At least three persons were reported to be critically injured after a boat that ventured into sea caught fire due to a battery explosion nearly six kilometers away from Karwar Port here on Wednesday September 5.

The boat named 'Jalapadma' belonging to Vaman Harikanth had sailed into the sea for fishing with 20 men onboard on Wednesday, while the boat was returning back to the port, a battery of the boat exploded and set the boat on fire. Sailors on other boat who noticed the boat on fire, rushed to the rescue of the crew onboard. However, Three fishermen were reported critically injured during the incident, while others survived with the minor injuries. The victims were then rushed to District Hospital of Karwar.
