Karwar: 433 places raided, liquor worth 6,06,877 seized in last 22 days in the district, says Excise DC

Haliyal 18 April 2018: In a raid that was conducted on Monday late night by the excise department, two people were arrested and Goan alcohol worth Rupees 1 lac was seized here at a house in Belavatagi village of Haliyal.

The owner of the house Sambhaji Appaji Mangangowda(62), and his son Gulla Mangangowda(42) have been detained in this operation.

Acting on a reliable information the Excise Deputy Commissioner L A Manjunath Directed officer Kavita and her team where they raided the place and seized 50 boxes of liquor that was stored for the distribution during election time to woo voters.

Deputy Commissioner of Excise department L A Manjunath said that, As code of conduct has come into effect in Election bound Karnataka , seizures also started increasing. In past 22 days, around 433 places were raided, 136 cases got registered, 79 persons were arrested, alcohol worth Rupees 6,06,877 and the 16 Vehicles used for smuggling worth Rupees 65,21,850 got seized.
