Karnataka's first vistadome coach chugs off from Mangaluru

MANGALURU:13 July,2021  Excitement was in the air, as people flocked to take pictures inside the vistadome coaches at the Mangaluru Junction railway station on Sunday. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor Premanand Shetty, MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, Southern Railway, Palakkad division, Divisional Railway Manager Trilok Kothari, deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra and others flagged off State’s first vistadome coaches attached to the Mangaluru Junction - Yesvantpur day train. Not just passengers, railway staff, policemen and media persons were found taking selfies and pictures of the interiors as they walked through the coaches, introduced with the aim of promoting rail tourism. Among passengers to take the maiden service was Preeti Bharadhwaj from Bengaluru. She was travelling along with her husband Nitin and son- 12-year-old Nitansh. The family landed in Mangaluru on Friday so that they could board this train. “Our son loves trains and it has been nearly two years that we have travelled. We have heard so much of these Indian railway coaches and felt that we must travel and enjoy the enchanting Western Ghats, especially on the Sakleshpur-Subramanya Ghat section, “ she said. Each vistadome coach has a seating capacity of 44 with seats that are rotatable up to 180 degrees. Wide, large windows will offer a clear close-up view for the passengers. Shaila and her husband Shrinivas Nayak said they are excited to capture the scenic western ghats during this season. There were a few passengers who did not expect the inaugural service to get so much attention. Nithin N Shenoy, insolvency professional from Bengaluru, said the journey has been scenic, beautiful and recommended that everyone travels once in a lifetime. ``It was misty and raining, but one needs to have patience as the train stopped for nearly an hour near Yedakumeri and people stepped out and clicked pictures,’’ he added from Hassan. N Sanjaý, deputy chief ticket inspector said that 75 seats have been booked and of this, 45 will be travelling up to Yesvantpur. Nearly 29 are expected to board the train from Subrahmanya Road. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said the passengers have been demanding a change in the timings of the Mangaluru- Vijayapura train and Gomateshwara express. The public has been demanding that the Gomateshwara express should depart from Yesvantpur at 9.30 am instead of 8.15 am. The issue will be discussed with the minister and the department officials, the MP said. Meanwhile, Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor welcomed the vistadome coaches at Kabaka Puttur railway station.
