Karnataka rations LPG supply: Hospitals get 100%, hotels capped at 10%

Bengaluru, Mar 19: In a move to prioritise essential services amid supply concerns, the Karnataka government has issued fresh guidelines for the distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), granting full allocation to critical sectors while sharply curbing supply to hotels and other commercial establishments.

As per the new directives, which will come into force from March 19, hospitals and educational institutions will receive 100% LPG supply, ensuring uninterrupted services in key sectors.

The government has laid down sector-wise allocation norms for LPG distribution agencies, clearly specifying the percentage of supply to be extended to each category based on urgency and necessity.

Under the guidelines, seed processing units, oil production companies, airlines and railways will be allocated 70% supply, while old-age homes have also been assured 70% LPG availability.

In contrast, sectors such as industrial canteens, corporate guest houses and food processing companies will receive only 10% supply. Hotels, in particular, have been restricted to just 10% of commercial LPG allocation, signalling a significant cutback for the hospitality sector.

The government has directed that commercial LPG supply to hotels will resume under these restrictions from March 18, and establishments can begin booking gas accordingly.
