Karnataka Health Minister’s remark on ‘modern Indian women’ leaves Internet divided

- Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar claimed that modern Indian women want to stay single and are unwilling to give birth even after marriage while speaking at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences, Bengaluru.
At the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences, Bengaluru, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said that modern Indian women want to stay single and are unwilling to give birth even after marriage. Women these days desire children by surrogacy, he said. Sudhakar also lamented the "western influence" on Indian society and how people don’t want their parents to live with them anymore.
“Today, we don't want our parents to live with us. A lot of modern women in India want to stay single. Even if they get married, don't want to give birth. Paradigm shift in our thinking, it's not good,” he said on the World Mental Health Day at NIMHANS on October 10.
"Unfortunately, today we are going in a western way. We don't want our parents to live with us, forget about grandparents being with us," he added.

Now, this statement has caused quite a hullabaloo on social media. Netizens took to social media to share their opinions. Some called his statement “regressive” while there were a few others who agreed with what Dr K Sudhakar had to say. “Yes, finally women have started to think beyond marriage and motherhood. "He is absolutely right. Everything is relative. Breaking of family system is detrimental to society. A stable family system is absolutely necessary for the development of child. Family is above anything.
