Karnataka CM recommends CBI probe into IAS officer DK Ravi's death

BENGALURU Bowing to mounting public pressure, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on Monday decided to hand over to CBI the probe into the mysterious death of an upright IAS officer that had led to national outrage and statewide protests. The chief minister made the announcement in the assembly, saying he was referring the case to CBI honouring the feelings of parents of officer D K Ravi and public sentiments. "I understand the feelings of Ravi's parents.... We respect public sentiments.. Before the announcing the decision before the assembly he said that a preliminary report has been submitted by state's premier investigation agency, Criminal Investigation Department (CID). However he didn't read out the content of the this report stating the status of investigation, as Karnataka high court on Sunday had barred the government and investigating agency from submitting any interim report. Chief Minister said that it was not possible for the investigation to be handed to CBI from the beginning itself as the state police had to be given the opportunity to investigate the matter because of the mandate. He also took shots at the opposition saying that none of their government had handed over any investigation to the CBI.
