Shivamogga: Even as the fate of the 17 disqualified Congress-JD(S) MLAs is yet to be decided by the Supreme Court over their eligibility to contest the bypolls in Karnataka, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday said that BJP would field all the disqualified MLAs for the by-election for 15 Assembly segments.
Addressing presspersons here Yediyurappa said, “BJP could form government in the state only because of the resignation submitted by these MLAs, therefore BJP would field all the disqualified MLAs for the by-election for 15 Assembly segments.”
“Party national president Amit Shah, has also given nod to field the disqualified MLAs,” he said.
Further speaking on the statement by BJP leader Umesh Katti that the disqualified MLAs will not get the opportunity to contest the by-election, he said that, as the party national leadership has taken a call on fielding them, there should not be any confusion over the candidature.
The bypolls to 15 of the 17 seats represented by disqualified MLAs, which the Election Commission had decided to defer, has now been scheduled for December 5.
The counting will take place on December 9.
