BJP MLA from Karnataka, MP Kumaraswamy, on Sunday alleged that he was attacked by the villagers in Chikkamagaluru protesting against the death of a woman who was reportedly trampled by an elephant.
Villagers, who were protesting with the dead body, were angry about the repeated incidents of people being killed after getting trampled by the elephants.
After the MLA visited the protest spot around evening, an argument broke out between the BJP leader and the villagers over the MLAs late response to the protest.
Later, he was reportedly chased out, with people running after him. However, police came to the rescue of the MLA and resorted to force to disperse the livid villagers.
Following the incident, Kumaraswamy claimed that he was beaten up, and the people ripped his shirt off.
