Karnataka: 9-year-old made to help in school kitchen suffers burns after cooker explodes

Mandya: A class four student who happily went to school on Tuesday, January 1 to celebrate the New Year is now being treated in the hospital for severe burn injuries after a pressure cooker exploded in the kitchen of a Sangapura government school in Sangapura village of Pandavapura taluk. The injured is Sinchana (9) and the incident took place while the midday meal was being prepared. It is gathered that the cook had asked Sinchana to help her and other workers in the kitchen in preparing midday meal food. The pressure cooker exploded while she was in the kitchen, as the results boiling water scalded all over her body. After first aid assistance was given at Pandavapura taluk hospital the injured was admitted to Mandya Medical College Hospital. Following the incident, the villagers alleged that kids in Sangapura government school are forced to help in the school kitchen.
