JD(S)'s Farooq to donate salary, allowances to needy patients, orphans

Bengaluru: BM Farooq, a Mangaluru-based businessman and one of the richest MLCs in the Legislative Council has said that he would use the money that he receives as salary and allowance to help needy patients. With assets over Rs 770 crore, as per an election affidavit filed by the JD(S) leader, Farooq has often been termed as the money bag of the JD(S) party. The MLC, while speaking to TOI said that he plans to donate the Rs one lakh salary plus an equivalent amount of allowances that he earns as an MLC for treatment of needy cancer, heart patients. He also informed that he runs an orphanage named Áyesha Memorial, managed by the Sadhya Education Trust. The trust aims at empowering orphan girls through education and also looks out after their shelter and other basic needs. “I have pledged to use this money on those who are in need of funds or services. I will issue a cheque to needy cancer, heart patients who require money for life-saving drugs and surgeries,” TOI quoted Farroq as saying. Source: News Karnataka
