BHATKAL, 26 Sep, 2016 ( Bhatkallys News): The elections to elect president and vice-president to the Jali Town Panchayat will be held on September 29. It may be recalled that Jali Panchayat was converted into a town (pattana) panchayat last year. The village panchayats having a population of more than 15,000 were declared as town panchayats and Bhatkal Taluk's Jali was one of them. Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem, Bhatkal will facilitate the nominations to the post of office-bearers as it will discuss the matter tomorrow at its meeting. Chances of getting Muslims elected to the post are bright. Among the probables whose names are doing the rounds for post of presidentship include Imran Lanka, an advocate by profession, Abdul Raheem Sheikh, former ZP member, and Bilal Qamri. From local inputs, Imran Lanka stands the best chance to become the president. Besides 11 Muslims, a Christian candidate who was supported by Tanzeem had won the seat and is likely to support Tanzeem's choice for the president. There are a handful Congress members who are likely to support Tamzeem-backed candidate. There are a total of 20 members in the body.
