A Palestinian has been killed overnight during an Israeli military operation in the Qalandiya refugee camp near Ramallah in the West Bank, medical and security sources say. The 21-year-old man was killed when troops entered the camp to make an arrest, prompting clashes with residents, sources said on Tuesday. The Israeli army confirmed that its special forces had launched a raid on the camp and that there had been clashes. Another Palestinian was arrested. Witnesses said residents of Qalandiya refugee camp threw stones at the Israeli soldiers and the man killed was watching from the roof of his home when he was shot. Explosive devices were also hurled at the troops, the military said. "Special forces came under attack in overnight operation in Qalandiya," Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Lerner, Israeli military spokesman, said on social media website Twitter. "In the exchange one terrorist was killed and another wounded and detained." The Israeli military later released a statement saying it was "investigating the incident". According to the UN's OCHA, Israeli forces have killed at least 47 Palestinians in occupied West Bank since the beginning of 2014.
