About Islamic New Year
The Islamic New Year, that starts with the 1st day of Muharram, is a day that marks the beginning of a new year in the Islamic calendar, also known as Hijra. The arabic word Hijra means migration of the Islamic prophet Muhammad (peace and mercy of Allaah be upon him) and his followers from Mecca to Medina in 622.
During the beginning of a new year, Muslims do not traditionally celebrate the occasion but they do acknowledge the passing of time and make resolutions for the new year.
