Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Professor RD Sharma Wednesday triggered fresh controversy over the issue of eliminating Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. "Why was he killed, he should have been caught alive and later sent to jail for life imprisonment," said Jammu University Vice Chancellor during media conference in Jammu. Earlier both Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Professor Nirmal Singh had given questionable statements which had created a buzz about the slain Hizbul commander Burhan Wani. Commenting on the sensitive issue Professor Sharma explained, "Kashmir issue is a very sensitive subject. In last 70 years if we have failed to find any solution then we must learn some lessons as well." Professor Sharma said that if by killing one militant situation takes an ugly turn and all others including parents, children and students become adamant to solve the issue of Kashmir first otherwise they will not return to their classes then the episode must be treated as an eye opener. "It is a clear signal for us that we must change our strategy and see if any militant is connected at the grass roots level then we must pay attention to those people whose sensitivities are connected with him," Sharma added. Professor Sharma further added that if Burhan Wani would have been caught alive and then shifted to jail for life time imprisonment it would have been a better option in my opinion.
