Grade 12 students of Indian schools in the UAE were ecstatic and breathed a sigh of relief after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced annual board examination results on Thursday, a few weeks earlier than expected.
Most Indian schools in the UAE have reported 100 per cent in the exam results, with nearly 40 per cent of students achieving marks of 60 per cent and above. School administrators, students, and teachers told Khaleej Times that they are delighted with the results and students to have especially commended their teachers stating they would not have been able to achieve the results without their teachers' help and guidance. With 20 exam centres in the UAE, approximately 6,600 students appeared for Grade 12 exams in the UAE.
"A total of 5,851 students appeared from Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
The exam was spread over for 45 days and covered about 30 subjects including skill-based courses," said a CBSE official.
According to the board, a total of 1.3 million students appeared for Class 12 board examination, of which 748,498 are boys and 538,861 girls. The total pass percentage for the country is 83.4 per cent. Joint toppers for the exam are Hansika Shukla and Karishma Arora with 499 marks out of 500. The top three performing regions are Thiruvananthapuram with 98.2 per cent, Chennai region with 92.93 per cent and New Delhi with 91.87 pass percentage.
Ecstatic students
As per the results obtained by Khaleej Times, Sanjana Reji Kallingal, a student at the GEMS Our Own English High School-Dubai, and Veera Venkata Ramprajwal from The Indian High School-Dubai were top performers from the UAE, scoring a whopping 98 per cent in the science stream.
A Kerala-native, Sanajana scored 99 in English, 100 in Math, 98 in Chemistry, 95 in Physics and 98 in computers. Speaking to Khaleej Times, minutes after checking her result, an overwhelmed Sanjana said: "Although I was expecting good marks getting 98 per cent overall was a bit beyond expectations. Getting 99 English was a bit of a shock and at the same time, I was expecting similar marks in my favourite subject Physics, in which I got 95 - less than what I got in the rest of the subjects. That was a bit of a shock too because I just love Physics as that's one subject I would do even if I was bored."
Veera scored 100 in chemistry, 100 in engineering graphics, 98 in math, and 97 in physics and 95 English. "I still cannot believe I topped my school and it is really a proud moment for me. I have been quite consistent but being a topper is nothing short of a dream come true. In fact, a few years back, when I excelled in cricket and my name came in the newspapers, my mother gave a pat on the back and said 'I wish you excel in academics too one day'. So, this one is for my mum, I am glad I could make her wish to materialise."
Students of Indian High School Jayashree Gopalakrishnan Iyer and Rupashree Ravi scored 97.6 per cent and 96.6 per cent in the Commerce and Humanities stream respectively. The marks were among the highest obtained by Khaleej Times since the results were announced Thursday afternoon.

In Delhi Private School, Dubai (DPS-Dubai), 44.6 per cent students have attained an average of more than 90 per cent and the school average is 87 per cent. Every student of the school has attained the first division. The science stream topper, Aman Ganapathy Manvattira, scored 97 per cent and credited her teachers for her performance. She said: "Behind every success story are those special people who motivate, guide and help you realise your potential. I am extremely grateful to my principal and director Rashmi Nandkeolyar for always standing by me and encouraging me to go the extra mile."
The CBSE schools under the GEMS management have upheld their impressive record of accomplishment with an outstanding 99.8 pass rate in the board exams.
