Illegal tobacco shops fined in Bhatkal

Bhatkal, 29 June 2017 (Bhatkallys News) – In a series of raids carried out by officials from the local health department, Bhatkal Tashildar issued fines to shopkeepers selling cigarette and tobacco products illegally.   Speaking with local media representatives, Dr Chandrashekar, a health department official from Bangalore said, “As part of regulations enacted under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act of 2003, we carried out raids for the first time in Bhatkal and issued minor fines to shopkeepers. A repeat offence will warrant greater fines.” The officials also visited a local school as part of an awareness campaign with a message to stay away from tobacco and drugs. - Report by Rizwan Gangavali
