Illegal mobile credit ring smashed

Sharjah: A ten-member Asian gang has been arrested in Sharjah for selling unauthorised mobile credit on the streets. The gang is also accused of fooling people with the promise of cheap credits, police said this week. From fake mobile phones and unauthorised mobile credits to fake mobile bumper draws, scamsters are coming up with new ways of cheating people, with many gullible residents being taken for a ride. Police are constantly on the look-out for such gangs who are increasing in number every day. Residents are urged not to fall for the trap and report to police any suspicious activity on streets. Several suspected scamsters have been arrested of late both in Dubai and Sharjah and the arrest of the Asian gang is a latest in series of actions taken by authorities. The Criminal Investigation Department at Sharjah Police formed a team after receiving a tip-off about the illegal activity of cheating residents on the Sharjah streets. The ten suspects, all from Bangladesh, were practicing illegal activities, which violated the law of the state, said a senior police official. After collecting the information about the suspects and their whereabouts, police raided their house and caught them red-handed while selling mobile credit to a victim. Colonel Jihad Saeed Sahoo, Director of Criminal Investigation Department at Sharjah Police said that the suspects were arrested while selling mobile credit to residents at a cheaper rate without obtaining permission from Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The suspects have been referred to public prosecution for further action.
