Illegal alcohol worth Rs 7 lakh seized in Karwar

Karwar 2 March 2019:(Bhatkallys News Bureau) In a joint operation conducted of Karwar excise officials and local police department on Friday, Goan Alcohol worth Rs 7.15 lakhs was seized here at Amadalli village of Karwar. As the officials received a credible information on Alcohol being stored in a house belonging to Sitaram Prabhakar near National Highway of Amadalli on Thursday night, the excise officials along with the police personnel conducted a raid at the house and seized over 2,440 liters Alcohol which worths Rs. 7,15,008/-. However, the accused fled away from the spot during the raid. It has been suspected that, the Alcohol was stored to lure people during Lok Sabha general election. Speaking in this regard, Karwar Excise Deputy Commissioner L A Manjunath said, “We have seized alcohol worth Rs.7.15 Lakhs in the joint raid. We are now looking on how the accused smuggled such a huge quantity of Alcohol through the check posts near the state border”, “We suspect that the alcohol was being stored for distribution during the upcoming Lok Sabha election. However, we will soon seize the vehicle used for smuggling and arrest the accused as soon as possible”. he added. (Bhatkallys News Bureau)
