Mangaluru 17 April 2018 (Bhatkallys News Bureau): On Monday, April 16 hundreds of citizens marched the candlelight vigil near DC's Office, in a peaceful demonstration to condemn criminal acts of rape and murders throughout the country and especially the Kathua and Unnao cases which has caught the national headlines lately. The idea of Candlelight vigilance was proposed by the parents of Sowjanya, who was murdered and raped in Beltangady in 2012. "Five years back my daughter was brutally raped and killed. Since then I' am fighting for justice and will continue the same till I get justice. I request you to support and stand with me", requested Sowjanya's mother. Muhammad Kunhi said, "Our country is famous and respected globally for its traditional values and cultural ethics. But now it is unfortunate that our country has been recognized for murders and rapes, which is a sad tragedy. It is horrific that the culprits are being defended openly. We should stand against it and should persistently protest until the rapist get strict punishment and make the law even stricter." In the protest along with the majority of social activists, students, professionals and other concerned citizens participated. (Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Wafa Kifa)
