Huge 70-kg Green Turtle Found Dead on Karwar Beach

Karwar: Fishermen and citizens on a morning walk on the beach were surprised to spot a huge dead green turtle on Thursday. As the news spread, people started gathering in large numbers. Old-timers too said that they had never come across such a large turtle in their lives. It was 1.2 metre long and 95 cms in width. It reportedly weighed almost 70 kgs. The locals carried the turtle to the marine research centre here. Dr V N Nayak of the centre said since the turtles came under the purview of the wildlife department, the latter would be handed over to the centre for research purposes. - Mangalorean.com
