Honnavar: Mob manhandles Bhatkal men illegally transporting cattle, four arrested, SP says more arrests soon

Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Rizwan Gangavali Honnavar 08 March 2018: In yet another incident of brutal cow vigilantism, a mob at Karki of Honnavar Taluka attacked two men from Bhatkal for illegally transporting cattle late on Wednesday night. The victims have been identified as Nurul Ameen Mukhtesar and Gufran Taufeeque both residents of Bhatkal. Both of them were rushed to a Karwar hospital by police officials for treatment after the incident. The victims were reportedly thrashed by rods, while Nurul Ameen has some fractures on his body, the marks of the assault of rods can be clearly seen on Gufran's body. On Thursday evening when both the injured were being shifted to a private hospital in Manipal on an ambulance, a group of people in Bhatkal tried to stop the ambulance when it was passing through the town. People demanded to have a look of the patients and also demanded their family members be taken onboard ambulance. Heavy Police deployment of Police led by In-Charge Dy. Sp Gopal Krishna, took hold of the situation and didn't let the ambulance stop in Bhatkal to avoid any untoward incident. The people then shouted slogans to showcase their protest against the tolling numbers of such incidents across the country. Speaking to Bhatkallys.com over a phone call Karwar Superintendent of Police Vinayak Patil, said "Whatever incident took place in Bhatkal today, where people tried to stop the ambulance was wrong as both the victims are accused in illegal transportation of cattle and are under the custody of police, the people should not have tried to stop the ambulance". Commenting further on the case Patil said, "Four accused have been arrested under section 307 of IPC for attacking the two victims, and the Police department is resolute about punishing those taking law into their hands". He further confirmed that more arrests will be made in the case.
