Honnavar: Attempt of attack on MLA Mankal Vaidya fails as attacker injures himself

Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Rizwan Gangavali Honnavar 26 Feb 2018: Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya was attending a District Level Volley Ball tournament as guest at Hosad locality in Honnavar Taluka when an attempted attack was made on the MLA by throwing a petrol bomb here on Sunday. The attempt failed as the bomb exploded untimely into the hands of the attacker before he could have thrown it towards MLA who was standing merely '20 meters away' according to the MLA. The attacker has been identified as Reymand Jerald, and is being treated at a private hospital in Manipal after he sustained serious injuries due to the explosion. The attacks comes at a time when the assembly elections of the state is nearing and the intensity for the seats and votes in the Coastal belt is on all time high. Mankal Vaidya while speaking to media persons at Karikal said "This is a political rivalry that has turned violent now from the other end". When asked if he thinks it was done by any specific political party or outfit he said "I will not blame any party or outfit for this as the attacker has been arrested red handed and is being treated at a hospital, once he is discharged police will investigate and interrogate him and the whole episode will be exposed if he is from any particular party or outfit". He further appealed to the party workers and supporters to not to respond to the situation or to any rumors.
