Karwar, July 25: In view of the continuing heavy rainfall and the Indian Meteorological Department’s red alert for the region, the Uttara Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Friday, July 26, 2025.
The holiday will apply to educational institutions in Karwar, Ankola, Kumta, Honnavar, and Bhatkal. Authorities took the decision to ensure the safety of students and staff as the region faces intense downpours and waterlogging in several low-lying areas.
The district has been receiving heavy rainfall since early this week, and several areas have reported overflowing drains, disruption of normal life, and road blockages. The red alert issued by the IMD indicates the possibility of extremely heavy rain exceeding 204 mm within 24 hours, along with strong winds in isolated areas.
People living in vulnerable and flood-prone zones have been advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency teams and local officials are on high alert to respond to any incidents related to landslides, flooding, or damage caused by the weather.
