Hike in rail fare New Year gift from central govt: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday slammed the government on the issue of fare hike announcement by Indian Railways
“Increase in Train fares is a New Year gift by @narendramodi government to common people,” tweeted Siddaramaiah.
“This will further dent the developmental prospects as Railways form a backbone of Transportation. Instead, the govt should have gifted us the values of our Constitution by upholding it,” said Siddaramiah in his tweet.
The railways announced fare hike across its network, excluding suburban trains, effective from January 1, 2020. According to the order, issued on Tuesday there will not be any change in the reservation fee and superfast charge and the hike in fares will not be applicable to tickets already booked.
The ministry said that the increased fare will help in the modernisation of the Indian Railways.
