Bhatkal: Following the bomb blast near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday that killed twleve people and left several others injured, security has been tightened across the country. Uttara Kannada district has also been placed on high alert, with bomb and dog squads conducting thorough checks at various sensitive locations, including the popular tourist destination of Murdeshwar.

The district is home to several key installations such as the Sea Bird Naval Base in Karwar, the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant, and major religious and tourist spots like Gokarna and Murdeshwar, which attract large crowds throughout the year.

Superintendent of Police Deepan said that additional security measures and increased patrolling have been implemented at vulnerable locations to ensure public safety and prevent panic. “The mock security drill we conducted recently under the ‘Sagar Kavach’ exercise is proving useful in the current situation,” he added.

Authorities have also instructed police personnel to intensify vehicle checks and maintain strict surveillance at key points. Senior police officials and government officers conducted patrols at bus stands, railway stations, and sensitive areas such as the Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday evening.
