Heavy rains lash Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu

The district continued to receive heavy rain on Tuesday, increasing inflow into the reservoirs.
The rainfall in the catchment area of the Linganamakki reservoir was recorded at 55.8 mm, with the inflow being 1,398 cusecs. The catchment area of the Bhadra reservoir received a rainfall of 19.4 mm, with an inflow of 1,621 cusecs. The inflow into the Gajanur dam was recorded at 4,600 cusecs, with the water level being 585.59 feet.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Teerthahalli taluk at 66.4 mm, while the lowest was in Shikaripur at 1.4 mm. Hosanagar received 51.6 mm. There were light showers in Davangere and Chitradurga districts.
Dakshina Kannada, Udupi
The monsoon left a trail of destruction with houses collapsing and trees uprooted in the two districts. Uprooted trees created hurdles for smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
A huge tree came down at Padil on the Mangalore-Bangalore highway, disrupting traffic for some time. More than 175 arecanut trees were uprooted in three plantations at Kattattila near Vitla Kolnad village. Mangalore city received 102 mm rain, while it was 97.6 mm in Bantwal.
Udupi district received an average rainfall of 76.1 mm. There were reports of rain in Chikmagalur district as well.
Uttara Kannada district
Bhatkal and Honnavar taluks in the district received heavy rainfall.
Four houses in Azad Nagar were waterlogged due to heavy rain in Bhatkal town. A kutcha house collapsed in Kokti Nagar. The town received 180 mm rainfall in a span of seven to eight hours on Tuesday.
The flooded roads threw life out of gear in the town. All major roads in the town as also the Shamshuddin Circle were inundated, hampering smooth movement of vehicles.
The heavy rains disrupted normal life in Bhatkal taluk. Thousands of acres of agriculture land were flooded in the rural areas. Most of the water bodies are overflowing.
People living on the banks of rivers in the taluk face the danger of floods. Those living on the sea shores had to face sleepless nights due to the fear of sea erosion. The taluk administration is taking all steps to tackle rain-related incidents. There were heavy showers in Honnavar taluk too.
There were reports of moderate rainfall in Karwar, Kumta, Ankola, Mundagod and Yellapur.
The district received moderate showers, with reports of many incidents of power lines being snapped due to trees falling on them. The water level in the Harangi reservoir was 2,803.02 feet on Tuesday, with the maximum level being 2,859 feet. The level was 2,803.69 feet on the same day last year. The catchment area of the dam received 7.2 mm rain.
