Heavy rains expected in Karnataka from Jun 5

Bengaluru, Jun 3: Weather department has warned of heavy rains in the state in the coming five days. In the coastal districts, moderate rains are expected for four days from Saturday June 3 and heavy rains on June 7. In northern interior Karnataka, moderate rains will shower on all the five days. From Thursday night till Friday morning, some areas of state received rains. Three cm rain showered at Mahalingapura of Bagalkot, Athani of Belagavi, Hunsur of Mysuru and Hiriyoor of Chitradurga districts. Due to the delay in check dam work that is being done on some ponds of Shiggavi taluk of Haveri district, water entered the farm land of farmers and hampered agriculture activities. Farmers are expressing anguish on the contractors and officials as their lands are filled with water. They asked legal action against the officials. As the check dams are built on the bends, the water enters the fields and destroys the fertility of the land. Retainer walls are also not built.
