Heavy rain creates havoc in Bhatkal; Holiday declared in Schools and Colleges

Bhatkal - 18 July 2011: Heavy rain from the past few days created floodings in low lying areas due to this hundreds of acres of paddy fields have been inundated. The taluk administration has alerted villagers on the bank of River Venkatapur, which is flowing above danger mark, to move to safer places.
As a precautionary measure, Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada has declared holiday in all Schools and Colleges of the distirict on Monday, July 18.
According to the meteorological department, 160.0 mm rainfall has been recorded from Saturday 8:00 am to Sunday 8:00 am.
Reports of house collapse have been received from several places. Bhatkal Tahsildar Mr Rajiv Moger visited the affected areas and inspected the damage.
