Heavy rain and high tides expected to hit Bhatkal coast in next 48 hours

Bhatkal - 10 June 2011: The South-western Monsoon, moisture-laden winds from theIndian Ocean which brings rain in the sub-continent have fully tightened its grip on coastal belt including Bhatkal, Kundapur, Udupi, Mangalore and Karwar with incessant rain from the past one week. Reports of house collapse and uprooting of coconut trees and electric poles have been reported from several places.
According to Weather department, in the next 48 hours high tides strong winds and 173.6 mm rainfall is expected to lash Bhatkal coast. The district administration has warned people residing near coastal areas to keep safe distance and fishermen are advised not to venture in the sea.
