Haliyal: Forest official foils Sagwani smuggling attempt, seize furniture worth Rs. 2.35 lacs

Haliyal 5 February 2019:(Bhatkallys News Bureau) Forest officials of Haliyal Taluk on Monday arrested three men for allegedly smuggling teakwood (Sagwani) tree worth Rs.2.35 lacs here at Sankanakoppa village of Haliyal Taluka. The accused have been identified as Sahadeva Marate, Balakrishna Hanumantha Kumara and Somaninga Kenchappa Gowda. All of whom are residents of Sankanakoppa village. Working on a tip-off, the forest officials of the Taluka on Monday evening raided the village and caught hold of the three while they were allegedly smuggling the wood. The officials seized 34 pieces of Sagawani wood estimated to be worth Rs.2.35 lacs. Two bikes and a wooden sofa were also seized during the raid. (Bhatkallys News Bureau)
