‘Govt. committed to providing job opportunities for youth’

The State government has organised job melas in 23 districts over the last year, got jobs for over 1,72,000 persons under Kaushalya Abhiyan programme and several lakhs of youth trained to face interviews, said Muralidhar Halappa, chairman, Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC). Mr. Halappa told reporters on Sunday that the government was committed to providing employment to youth. They will be trained to meet the requirements of the job profile put forward by various companies, he said. The Union Minister for Labour had visited the head office of the Department of Skill Development Entrepreneurship and Livelihood in Bengaluru to learn how the department had gotten for lakhs of youth, Mr. Halappa said. He claimed that Karnataka had become a role model in getting jobs to lakhs of unemployed youth. A three-day job mela is being held at Maharaja College grounds since Saturday. It has seen participation from 41,284 persons from Mysuru, 18,664 from Mandya, 21,345 from Hassan, 9,324 from Chamarajanagar, and 5,187 from Kodagu. Over 1,110 youths had already been hired by various companies, Mr. Halappa said. Asha Deep scheme Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to launch the Asha Deep scheme, according to which the State government will bear the employer’s portion of Provident Fund and ESI contribution of the candidate if selected in the job mela. The scheme was announced in the budget and the government had earmarked Rs. 45 crore. Mr. Halappa said for temporary employees, the government would pay PF and ESI for one year and for permanent staff it would be for two years. Source: The Hindu
