Government schools in Bhatkal sees dip in number of students; 15 schools has less than ten students

Bhatkal 17 June 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) The strength of students in the Government Primary Schools of Bhatkal Taluk has seen a drastic fall, and has reached a point where about 15 Government schools are falling short of accommodating the minimum of 10 students.
Even when the all the basic facilities including mid-day meals, free uniform, Health check ups and others, it is not proving to be efficient in pulling the students to school, the local BEO claims the Government is providing a similar environment like private schools, but the number is decreasing each year.
The Government primary schools at Agga has two students, four students at Government School of Halyani, Seven at Golikatta, Seven at Arukki, Seven at Gujam, Seven at Matadkeri, Nine at Kenbre, Nine students at Keregadde.
Responding to the matter Block Education Officer (BEO) M R Munji said "There is no question of shutting down the schools though the number of students are decreasing constantly."
He further added "There are some students who come from very far away places and to make them convenient, existence of these schools are necessary" he then said "Essential steps will be taken in future to grab the attention of the students and increase the numbers in the years to come."
