Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that she was not apprised about opposition alliance INDIA's meeting in New Delhi, scheduled for December 6. The West Bengal Chief Minister has programmes to attend in North Bengal during that period, she said.

"I don't know about the India alliance meeting. No one told me about the meeting nor a call came. No information. I have programmes to attend in North Bengal from December 6-7. I made other plans. Now if they call me now , how do I change the plan. I would have gone had they told me," she told reporters.

Mamata Banerjee will to skip the meeting, as she has an event scheduled in north Bengal.

However, it was earlier reported that TMC was also among the alliance partners contacted by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for the December 6 meeting.

The meeting was called as the BJP crossed the halfway mark in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, and edged past the ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh as well on Sunday morning.

INDIA is a coalition of big-tent political parties led by the Indian National Congress. It was formed to take on the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha poll. It was formed during an opposition party meeting in Bengaluru in July this year.

The slogan of the united opposition is "United We Stand".

The latest INDIA grouping's meeting comes amid the BJP's massive performance in three out of five states that went to assembly elections in November.

The BJP dethroned Congress in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and also retained power with a comfortable majority in Madhya Pradesh. Congress, however, ousted the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana.
