Good response to pulse polio immunisation drive in DK, Udupi

MANGALURU/UDUPI: The first day of four-day nationwide pulse polio immunization drive carried out in Dakshina Kannada district saw 1,49,332 out of 1,68,479 children in the target age-group of zero to five years administered polio drops in the five taluks as part of the booth level activity. The overall success was 88.64%. Children in the target age-group make up for 7.81% of the district's total population of 21,57,475 people, district RCH officer said. A total of 84,186 out of 88,248 children in the target age-group of zero to five years were administered polio drops in the three taluks of Udupi district on Sunday, an overall success of 95%. Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj who kick-started the immunization drive in the district by administering polio drops to a child at Women and Children's' Hospital in Udupi said the drive is to ensure that India remains a polio free nation at all times in the future as well. -TOI
