Gold Worth Rs 67 Lakh At Mangaluru Airport Confiscated From Duo

Mangaluru, Jan 6: Gold worth Rs 67 lakh were confiscated from two passengers here at the international airport, officials of the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) said on Wednesday. A DRI press release said the two passengers who had arrived here from Dubai on Tuesday were intercepted and checked based on a tip-off. One of the passengers from Bhatkal in Karnataka had concealed five balls in his rectum containing gold paste covered in adhesive tape, the release said. The balls yielded, 641,41 gm of gold, it said. The other passenger belonging to Kasaragod in Kerala was discovered concealing gold in paste shape with a special pouch in his underwear, the release added. It said the gold weighed 646.67 gm. Rs 67 lakh was the cumulative amount of the precious metal confiscated, the release said. It is alleged that the two people are members of a group in the UAE that has close ties, officials said. The number of cases of gold theft is on the increase with the relaxation of lockdown restrictions and the resumption of international flights, the release stated.
