Gold Worth Rs 35 Lakh Seized at Airport, Bhatkal Man Arrested

Mangalore - 21 Nov 2012: A man has been arrested at Mangalore International Airport for possessing over one kg of gold. The accused has been identified as Abdul Qadeer from Bhatkal, aged around 25 years. He is a graduate from Fisheries College, Mangalore. He arrived at the airport by the early morning Air India Express flight from Dubai on Wednesday November 21. Acting on prior information, the officials of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) arrested Abdul from the airport. Sources said that the DRI officers have seized 1.11 kg of gold, worth Rs 35 lac, in the form of two bars and some ornaments. This is the third incident of smuggling reported in the city in the last one month. Earlier, on October 23, Red Sanders Wood worth Rs 3 crore was seized by the DRI at Mangalore New Port, followed by confiscation of saffron worth Rs 25 lac at Mangalore International Airport on November 3 .
