Gold smuggler remanded to judicial custody

Mangalore - 22 Nov 2012: The court has remanded Bhatkal based Abdul Qadeer, who was arrested at MangaloreInternational Airport on charges of smuggling in over one kg of gold, to judicial custody till December 15.
The 25-year-old youth had allegedly stuffed 1.11 kg of gold ornaments and biscuits in his underwear while landing at the airport on Wednesday morning.
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized the gold worth Rs 35 lakh when he arrived by Air India Express IX-814 from Dubai at 6.15am.
Based on a tip-off, the sleuths searched the suspect thoroughly. Sources said he was hiding the gold near his private parts.
The youth, who didn't mention gold in his customs declaration, initially didn't give details. When sleuths questioned and strip-searched him, they found the gold, sources added.
He was produced before the chief judicial magistrate and remanded to judicial custody till December 15.
