Dubai: Dubai Police have arrested a six-member gang who stole Dh3 million from a money transporting vehicle, police said on Thursday. Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said that police received a call about a vehicle used to transport money being robbed in Al Muraqqabat area earlier this week. He said according to the first report, a security guard of the company handling the transportation of money managed to open the vehicle’s door and fled with Dh3 million. Dubai Police arrested the gang on Wednesday and recovered the whole money. “Our investigation revealed that it was a planned robbery by six people. They were working as security guards in the money transportation company. We put them on the blacklist at all UAE borders and started a hunt. Finally, they were arrested from a house in Al Rashidiya area,” Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said. The money was still with the gang as they could not wire it outside and they were arrested while they were trying to find a way to leave the country. “Dubai Police are fully prepared to handle such crimes. It was an insider job and we managed to arrest the gang and recover the money in a short time,” Maj-Gen Al Mansouri added. Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, praised his officers for arresting the suspects quickly, saying police always stand ready to bust such gangs. “We are ready to deal with any crime. The officers’ work in this case was outstanding as they arrested the gang and recovered the money in a short time,” Maj-Gen Al Merri said. Dubai Police asked companies in Dubai to take preventive measures and keep a track of their employees who they appoint to transport money. The gang will be referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution for further legal action.
