Forest Department guard killed in bike accident in Bhatkal

Bhatkal:24 January,2026 (Bhatkallys News Bureau)  A forest department guard lost his life in a bike accident on Thursday while on duty in the forest area near Bhatkal.

The deceased has been identified as Shankar Mastappa Naik (56), a resident of Bedrikeri Belake in Bhatkal, who was serving as a guard with the Bhatkal forest department.

According to sources, Naik was on patrol duty in the forest area and was riding his bike along a narrow, unpaved road in the limits of Muttalli village. While negotiating a slope, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and fell, sustaining serious injuries.

He was immediately shifted to the Bhatkal government hospital for first aid. However, his condition worsened, and while being taken to a hospital in Kundapur for further treatment, he died on the way.

Following the incident, officials and staff of the forest department reached the hospital and paid their last respects to the deceased.
