Flash flood: Man, son washed away in Karwar

KARWAR: Two persons, father and son, were swept away in a rivulet following flash flood at Mudrani village near Belambar of Ankola taluk on Monday.

They have been identified as Durgu Pokka Gowda (40) and Ravish Durga Gowda (15). Durga Gowda, a coolie, was returning his house along with his son after day's work at Ankola. When they approached Mudrani, heavy rains started. They had to wait on the bank of a rivulet in the village. It was then they began angling the fish with a hook. Suddenly a flash flood swept them in the rivulet.

Some youths of the village, who were nearby, tried to search both the father and the son, however, they could not be traced.

Their body was recovered on Monday morning. The education department has announced a compensation of Rs 30,000 to the kin. ZP vice-president, Uday Naik, taluk panchayat president Jagannath Gowda, Ankola block Congress president, Rajendra Naik and town panchayat president Bhaskar Narvekar visited the bereaved family and condoled the death of Durgu Gowda and his son .
