Five-year-old boy drowns in swimming pool at resort near Jali Beach

Bhatkal: A five-year-old boy drowned after slipping into a swimming pool at a resort near Jali Beach on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Mustaqeem Shaikh, son of Maulvi Shahidullah, a local madrasa teacher.

According to the family, the child was at the resort with his mother and younger sibling. He is believed to have slipped into the swimming pool, which is about five feet deep, during a brief moment when his mother was not present near him.

His mother immediately pulled him out of the water. A few youths who were outside the resort rushed in and attempted CPR to revive him. He was then taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. The body was later shifted to the taluk government hospital, where post-mortem was conducted. The remains were handed over to the family around 8 pm.

Family members said the boy was studying in LKG at a local madrasa. Teachers and several locals visited the hospital to console the family.

His burial was carried out the same night at the Tanzim Millia Masjid in Nawayath Colony. Bhatkal police have registered a case.
