Five new Indira canteens in Mangaluru, to be operational from Jan 1

Mangaluru 16 Nov 2017: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Kavitha Sanil on Tuesday announced the opening of five new Indira Canteens in the city on Jan 1 2018.
Speaking at the press conference, Ms. Kavita said "The MCC has targeted five places for inaugurating Indira Canteens which is one of the most sought after project of CM Siddaramaiah led congress government, which offers Breakfasts and Lunch at Rs. 5 and 10 respectively.
The first canteen was inaugurated by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on August 15 earlier this year in Bengaluru and had promised to open the canteen in every district by Jan 1 2018.
The government had approved six canteens for MCC limits but on insistence of Food and Civil Supplies minister UT Khader one canteen has been moved to Ullal, his contituency which falls under Ullal City Corporation limits. The MCC will open the Indira canteens at Kankanady Market, Near Nehru Maidan, Near MUDA office, Surathkal Bus stand and Kavoor Junction while Ullal City Corporation will open the canteen at Thokottu Junction.
She further added, the MCC will bear 70% of the operational cost while 30% of cost will be looked after by the State government's labour department. Deputy Commissioner will monitor the operations of the canteens.
