First Muslim-run school for differently-abled children inaugurated in Bhatkal

Bhatkal: 24 January,2026 (Bhatkallys News Bureau)  A special school dedicated to the education, training and care of differently-abled children, Wisdom Special School, was inaugurated at the campus of Al Kausar Girls College near Masjid Ikhwan on Basti Road in Bhatkal. The institution was formally inaugurated with prayers by Bhatkal Qazis Maulana Abdul Rab Khateebi Nadvi and Maulana Khwaja Muinuddin Akrami Madani.

 

Speaking at the inauguration, religious and community leaders underlined the importance of providing quality education and care to differently-abled children in a respectful and value-based environment. They said supporting children with disabilities is not only a social responsibility but also a moral and spiritual duty. Several speakers observed that extending help to people with disabilities brings blessings and safeguards future generations, adding that such initiatives strengthen the fabric of society.

 

School authorities said that the number of differently-abled children in Bhatkal has been steadily increasing, with estimates suggesting that more than 300 children in the town require special care and training. In response to this growing need, a group of women from Bhatkal took the initiative to establish the school under Muslim management, aiming to provide structured education and holistic care.

 

All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Maulana Ilyas Jakti Nadvi described the establishment of the school as a major requirement for Bhatkal. He urged the management to ensure that along with special education, students are also given Islamic-based moral and value education. He praised the efforts of the management, teachers and supporters for coming forward to address a long-felt need.

 

The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Addressing the gathering, Al Kausar Girls College Chairman S.M. Syed Shakeel and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Bhatkal President Maulana S.M. Syed Zubair said that caring for differently-abled children is a demanding responsibility, but one that brings deep satisfaction and long-term social benefit. They informed that the school has begun operations with 11 students enrolled, supported by three trained teachers who are engaged in their education and care.

 

Several prominent personalities from the town and surrounding areas were present at the programme. They congratulated the management on establishing what was described as the first special school under Muslim management in Bhatkal and assured full cooperation and support to ensure its growth and succes
