First 101 students pursuing IIT Madras BSc awarded provisional diploma certificates

The first batch of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras BSc degree programme, consisting of 101 students, was awarded their provisional diploma certificate on Saturday. In addition to awarding the diplomas, the BSc students also organised the first cultural and technical fest titled ‘Paradox 2022’ that was held on the campus from May 20, 2022 to May 22, 2022. More than 2000 students from across the country attended the event, including several students who were pursuing this programme from foreign countries too, took part in the event.

DIVERSITY AMONGST STUDENTS

Students who were studying for the IIT Madras BSc degree came from diverse geographies, different age groups and various socioeconomic backgrounds. Of the 101 students studying in the first batch, almost 15% were working professionals. Whereas 9 students were under 20 years old and 3 students were above the age of 40. The students in the inaugural batch came from all around the country, including Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

17 ECONOMICALLY WEAK STUDENTS AWARDED PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATES

A total of 101 students got provisional diploma diplomas and participated in various events organised at IIT Madras during 'Paradox 2022' from May 20 to 22, 2022, including 17 students from families with annual earnings of less than 1 lakh rupees.

WHAT IS DEGREE SPECIAL?

The BSc Degree in Programming and Data Sciences is a ‘first-of-its-kind’ programme as it provides a chance to students to study at IIT Madras without appearing for the Joint Entrance Examination or JEE. The course provides for multiple entries and exit points and students can receive a certificate after completion of foundation-level courses, two diplomas after the completion of second-level courses, and a BSc degree after completion of the final-level courses.
