Fire erupts at Nitra Island

Bhatkal - 29 Jan 2011: Fire erupted on Thursday evening here at Nitra (Pigeon) Islands, a famous tourist destination and bio-heritage site located 25 km off Bhatkal coast. The tourists present over there immediately informed the police and timely action by Coastal Security guards controlled the fire and averted major mishap. According to the sources, fire damaged part of forest at the Island; however wildlife and other things are safe. Bhatkal DySP Mr M Narayan also visited the Island and inspected the damage.
