Female suicide bomber blows herself up in Dhaka, 2 killed

Two militants, a female and a boy, were killed in separate suicide blasts when Bangladesh Police raided their hideout here on Saturday.
Counter terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) concluded their operation after 2 militants - a woman and a teenager were killed in separate blasts and another four - two women and two children came out of the building and surrendered before the law enforcers.

A minor girl, who suffered splinter injuries when the woman killed herself, has been taken to the hospital.

Earlier, the militants hurled two hand-bombs from the building around 12:25 pm, which wounded Police Inspector Shafi Ahmed of bomb disposal unit.

In retaliation, the police also fired tear shells in the building.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the counterterrorism unit of DMP, Sanwar Hossain said that a militant exploded a bomb tied to her body killing herself on the spot.

Earlier, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit raided the three-storey building named Surja Villa and cordoned it off around 2:00 am, suspecting presence of militants, said DMP Commissioner.

Around 9:45 am, the four surrendered to the police along with a pistol and several bullets when the police, using a loudspeaker, asked the them to surrender.

Police started their operation around 12:30 pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque also reached the spot.

Kamal formally announced the end of the operation adding that despite their request to militants to surrender, a woman and a teenage boy blew themselves up.

He also lauded the law enforcing agencies for handing the operation effectively.
