Abdul Karim Telgi, who was convicted for masterminding a multi-crore fake stamp paper racket, passed away at the Trauma Care Centre in Victoria Hospital on Thursday. He was declared dead at 3.55 p.m., doctors said. The 56-year-old was admitted to Victoria Hospital 10 days ago with meningitis. Doctors said he was put on ventilator and life support after multi-organ failure. Telgi was serving seven years' imprisonment in four cases. He had six cases in Karnataka, and had been acquitted in two cases. However, he had multiple cases pending against him across India. Two persons were assigned to help him in the Central Prison in Bengaluru. However, soon after Deputy Inspector General D. Roopa’s report on alleged irregularities and preferential treatment to high-profile inmates within the prison hit the headlines, the facilities extended to Telgi and others were withdrawn.
